Chai Haleeb

An Arabian Gulf popular rich and sweet hot tea drink. Usually served for breakfast or dinner with khoubiz al tanoor. In the older days, when cheese, jam and cereals were not known, chai haleeb and khoubiz were the daily breakfast and dinner for most people.

1 tablespoon black tea
3-1/2 cups water
2-1/2 cups milk
sugar to taste
5 whole green cardamoms
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom

1. In a 1-1/2 quart saucepan on high heat add water and milk, bring to a full boil. Add tea, sugar and cardamom pods. Reduce heat to low-medium until sugar has dissolved then reduce heat to low.

2. Add ground cardamom and stir. Serve.

Yields: 6 servings

    Lol, Khoubiz and chai are still the main breakfast in Morocco. Only Mint chai of course. I love this tea, yumm.

    Zelia here in Saudi they do not use milk they think that is the worse thing ever lol :p Countries like Yemeni, UAE, Bahrain and those areas all love it and that is the only way they have it. I like it however dh not so much lol. Yes, tea and bread is a very popular anything here as well. But we have many more options these days :)

    I love milky tea, except I call it “normal tea”. It’s amazing how this British colonial drink has spread. But, the Indians perfected it with the spice!!! :)

    Oh wow, this is just like Indian/Pakistani chai (tea). We drink it like twice or more everday. Hehe :} I love cardamom in my chai and feel its not the same w/o it, but 5 pods seems a bit too strong.
