So I thought I would do some espresso machine reviews and maybe keep one of you from having to go through the hassles that I have. When I started out wanting an espresso machine I really had no idea what I was getting into, I just wanted a cup of coffee like I would get at a cafe. I started off a few years ago by buying this cheap Eleckta, it was sr100 and I really did like it, but I was really wanting something that was more automatic and did the milk for me. I hated having to heat it elsewhere. It was just too much work I thought, plus you can only make one small cup.
So earlier this year I upgraded to the Delonghi EC5 which was still not very expensive, around sr250. I was so happy that I could add the milk right inside the machine, but I have to admit I did not like this machine at all and the previous one was better in my opinion. I had to ghetto rig this just to work. This was the procedure I had to take to make ONE cup of coffee. Add the coffee, water and milk. I had to place a heavy canister on top of the milk lid because if I didn’t it would blow off and milk would go everywhere. Also, I had to keep the water tank full just for a small coffee or else it wouldn’t make it, such a waste of water. Because it operates on steam it uses a lot of water for that small cup and before I could use the milk drip I had to set a small cup under it to catch the 1/2 cup water that came out before the milk so my coffee wouldn’t get watered down. The machine had this tube part that connected to the milk and I had to replace it a few times in a short period of time. It would just fall off and not connect again. And do not even think of having more than that one SMALL cup because you would have to wait for the machine to cool down and do it all over again, so if more than one person wants a drink forget it. Such a waste of TIME and money.
I’ve always bought good coffee trying to achieve that cafe taste. I switched from Starbucks to Craft Coffee, still something was missing. I was STILL buying coffee outside. I finally bought some Vanilla syrup, that was a step up, but the taste was still lacking. It was time to just admit that I bought a crappy machine and if I really wanted a cup of coffee, then I would need to pay for a better machine. And of course the better machines cost a lot, so I just dreamt of it, for a year.
A few years ago I heard all the Nespresso talk, but never thought it would suit me, but the hotel we always stay at in Dubai had one in the room and the coffee tasted so good, just like a cafe. And just like that I started wanting one. These machines are not cheap, but they work and they’re good. I wish I would have just saved all the money from the wasted items and it would have paid for it pretty much, but you live and, learn. I was actually going to buy the Inissia machine, which is a lot cheaper. Of course I wanted the lattismma, but it was just too much in my opinion. I figured the inissia would do, but I was sad that I couldn’t make drinks with milk like the lattisma.
I’ve actually been hinting about a Nespresso since the Summer time. I asked for one for Eid too. I guess my husband was sick of making Starbucks runs and it was clear how much I wanted one so he finally agreed. Honestly, as you all know I work freelance so I usually pay for all of my own stuff that I want, so I was really happy to get this as a gift. I’ve had it for about a week now and all I can say is wow, it was worth every penny and if you like good coffee, then this IS the machine for you.
So, where should I even start? Nespresso takes capsules and I guess one would complain that you have to buy the capsules, but you had to buy coffee too, so what’s the difference? And the great things about pods is you can actually pick all variations. I’m not even sure how many types they make, but it’s a lot. They all range in numbers of flavors and intensity. My machine came with 20 and I was able to choose the ones that I wanted. I really like the strong espresso ones and the vanilla is great too. You don’t have to go to the store, you could even order them on Ebay or online if you wanted, which is what I plan to do. The coffee inside is fresh and very high quality, this was the main concern for me.
The machine itself was so simple to set up. You have 6 touch buttons where you can make espresso drinks, lattes, cappuccino, or just milk and many more. You can even choose a regular foam or extra froth. It has easy programming where you can program how much coffee and milk you want to fit your glass and taste. And it has a simple, clean button that cleans it all up after you’re done. And best of all I can make as many drinks as I want, it’s all so easy and the taste, OMG the taste you all is even better than a cafe.
One thing that I had seen in the past is a reusable capsule that you can just use your regular coffee with. I was excited about this, but after some research I found out that it just doesn’t work well, so stick with the actual parts. So there you have it, my long journey to find good coffee. Yes, you’ve watched me go from an American coffee pot, moka pot, French Press, Aeropress, cheap espresso machine, super crappy espresso machine to finally a GOOD one. I think I deserve a good cup of coffee after all that work, don’t you? I hope I save you loads of time AND money, just take my advice and go right to the good one, it’s worth it.
